Transportation Planning Update Summer '08 from US DOT FHWA and FTA

Date:
09/2008

Periodical from the US DOT highlighting activities of the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration.

Step 8

The Transportation Planning Update Summer 2008 is a new letter that includes individual narratives about new and exciting things that are happening with DOTs around the country. There are two different narratives that relate to Step 8 of the OTPA Freight System Action plan. The first is the collaboration between CSX Transportation (CSXT), Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) on Page 7. These three entities combined funding for project to retro-fit two locomotives with clean burning diesel engines.

The next article is the "Freight-Land Use Peer Exchange: Connecting Ideas, Partnerships, & Solutions" on Pages 7 and 8. The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) hosted a peer exchange with MPO’s from several different areas, local governments, commercial developers and freight operators. The peer exchange created a forum for stakeholders and MPO’s to share ideas and to air concerns in regards to freight land use strategies.
