About OnTrackAmerica
OnTrackAmerica, a 501c3 nonprofit transportation consultancy, is founded on fifteen years of research and dialogue with stakeholders throughout industry, government, and academia. We have promoted a bold, yet pragmatic vision for advancing transportation efficiency through thousands of individual conversations and numerous multi-stakeholder summits. During this time, founder Michael Sussman through his company Strategic Rail Finance has coordinated financing in 23 states, particularly for branch railroads that previously suffered from underinvestment. Mr. Sussman's commitment to maximizing the transportation industry's contribution to economic vitality and livable communities has led to the creation of OnTrackAmerica.
Why is OnTrackAmerica important?
OnTrackAmerica is advancing a better method for integrating commercial activity and related public policy. Traditional collaborative planning efforts most often lack the broad participation and perspective that our complex challenges now require. The ever-increasing demands placed on freight capacity by population and economic growth require an improved integration of commercial activity and governmental policy. All concerned—vested interests included—must move beyond the limitations of narrow agendas.
There are many talented people in the public and private sectors working toward an optimal transportation system. It is more important than ever to empower them with new forums for productive interactions. OnTrackAmerica forwards the efforts of earnest stakeholders by providing leading-edge communication and collaborative tools.

Meeting the rising demand for freight transportation requires an expanded utilization and coordination of all transport modes. But as we look to grow the system, we must make best use of our natural resources and limit environmental impact, particularly the use of land, space, and energy. Increasing our utilization of freight railroads as we create the optimal transportation system of the future will benefit all modes of transportation.
